High school is a big process to go through before entering the real world. How do you prepare for life after high school?
At CHAH, students can speak to many different people about internships and programs that will prepare them for life after high school. Randy Bowen, the school counselor for 11th and 12th graders, helps you get introduced to organized internships and programs that allow students to have exposure to their major. Programs such as Sponsors for Education (SEO) and Minds Matter prepare students for life after high school by letting students take college courses and other courses.
Mr. Bowen can connect you to a program or internship. Mr. Bowen said, “My role is, if we do an assessment and we find out, hey, you are a person for this profession, then we need to think about how do we expose you to that before you make it to go to college or trade school for that.”
Another way to get the help you need is by asking someone, which means getting out of your comfort zone. It can sometimes be a little scary to come out of your shell, but the only way you can get an opportunity is if you put yourself out there and try. It doesn’t have to be a school counselor–you can talk to a friend or a family member, too.
Vicky Chen, a Junior at CHAH said, “My cousin told me about it ever since I was in middle school, this school has partnerships with other programs such as mind matter and SEO and it really helps you be more involved with other people in your grade level and you get more help outside of school. She continued, “These programs let you know a good idea of how college is in the future and they support you with many resources such as SATs and other materials like more tutorial towards Math and ELA and with this resource it can really help CHAH Students get into college.”
Opportunities are very important throughout your life so you can innovate and grow. By being open and comfortable with seizing your opportunities you can make a proactive mindset for yourself and open new possibilities that can lead to many great successes in your life.
