Why you should join a club
You should join a club because it makes you feel like you’re a part of something, not just a student that goes to a school but a way to benefit yourself and the people you’re with. Not to mention joining a club can help you meet people that you wouldn’t think you would hang out with during school time.
Many students and staff involved in extracurricular activities believe clubs help them be active members of their community. Even though all of them are in different clubs, they all agree that being in a club builds character and gives you the opportunity to explore your interests.
“I think for me whenever I was involved in the school clubs, I always did better academically,” said Angelique Tarazi, a science teacher who also runs Stem Squad, a science club.”If you don’t feel that you’re a part of something, and you just come to school, get your grades and go, it’s never going to be a fun place to be.”
That’s why joining a club is important for students. Joining a club can make a student look forward to coming to school, and hey, it might even make you a better student.
Joining a club can also help you get into college.
”Being in a school club can expose you to different things, and make you decide.Maybe I want to do this as a career.”said Sarai Hilario, a member of student government. Depending on what clubs you decide to join while you’re in high school and middle school, it can help you learn things like ”what environment [you] work best in, or what really calls [your] attention,” Hilario said. Learning all these things now as opposed to later in life can be a huge advantage.
Yessibel Aquino, one of the editors of the newspaper club, agreed.
”I feel like that’s something many, if not most colleges look out for. Being involved in after school activities shows college recruiters that you’re dedicated to what you love or what you enjoy while also still staying in school,” Aquino said.
If you’re trying to get into a college of your choice, getting good grades is not enough. You need to show colleges what makes you stand out from the other thousands of students who also get good grades and also want to go to that same school.
