Ms. Mariah Jacobson is the dance teacher. We selected her for teacher of the month because she is really nice, good at classroom management, and all her lessons are exciting, adventurous, and well planned out.
Here are a few things to know about her. You might be wondering what inspired her to be a dance teacher. It was because it was her first job.
“At 13 years old I was told to teach a dance class for even younger children like 3 or 4 year olds,” Ms. Jacobson said. “I loved it and ended up pretty much teaching it.”
Ms. Jacobson’s first job was teaching after school. It helped her pay for school and it was like a part time job.
“The teacher I had was an after school dance class,” Ms. Jacobson said. “The teacher that I was would teach younger students so that I could pay my school tuition, so that was just an option, so to save money so I can pass as a high-school student and that’s how I got into it and ever since then. Sometimes teaching can come to life sort of like working at CHAH, a full-time job.”
Ms. Jacobson liked to dance since she was little. She danced a lot in different ways and loved dancing to music.
“I’ve been dancing since I can remember since I was 2 years old and I was always just moving and dancing to music and the different styles of music, dance,” Ms. Jacobson said. “I don’t remember picking it, I just always remember always having it cause I still loved it.”
Ms. Jacobson loves a lot of different things about dancing. She loved the music and how it connects people together.
“I love moving my body to different music and different styles,” said Ms. Jacobson. “It is a way I can connect with different people, different cultures, or different interests because dancing is a non-verbal language, a universal language. One can speak it and one can understand it.”
Shoutout to Ms. Jacobson for being awesome and if you have any suggestions for another teacher of the month, please tell Ms. Soni in room 316 or contact her at [email protected].
