This candy project is about 3 different candy types: guava, mango gummy and lychee. I went around giving out these candies to people and getting their reviews on these 3 specific candies. I interviewed Reginald Gooden, Jasmine Steba, Chrisshel Guzman and Brianny Martinez, then added my two cents to partake in the tasting of these sweets and to get their ratings and opinions on them.
The first type of candy everyone tried was lychee. Lychee is a fruit that originated from China. Lychee is popular because lychees contain several healthy minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants that may help protect against heart disease. It is mostly eaten as food and also used as medicine. It has also been increasing in popularity in the United States.
Overall most of the people that i have interviewed enjoyed the lychee candy. Mr Gooden, a 10th grade English and Special Education teacher, thought the candy tasted “sweet like a cherry but not really…sort of tangy like a tangerine, [but] mostly melon.”
Similarly, 11th grade students Martinez and Steba thought the lychee tasted like a fruit. “It’s good, it’s subtle like a background candy,” Martinez said.
One student really disliked the candy. Guzman, an 11th grader, said the candy “made her nauseous.” “I did not like it,” said Guzman. I am never giving it to her ever again.
Overall, everyone that I interviewed enjoyed the guava. Guava originated around South America. Guava is popular due to its unique flavor. None disliked this particular candy. It was nostalgic to most of the students including myself. Martinez said, “It’s a common candy usually seen during Halloween.” Mr. Gooden described the guava candy as “lime light mint…reminds me of a butterscotch candy
Everyone that I interviewed enjoyed the mango candy. Mango is a fruit that originated from eastern India and southern China. Mangoes are popular because they’re delicious, healthy, and versatile. All the people enjoyed the realistic imitation of the mango. Mr Gooden said, “I like the fact that it’s chewy. It tastes like a tangerine mango vanilla flavor. It’s my favorite of the three.” He even stated, “I would purchase it.” Martinez stated that it was her favorite and “reminded her of the motherland.” It is also my favorite candy out of the bunch, and I think it has a great texture and flavor.
I recommend you go try GT’s and Singcheongyuan’s candies. They are really good and unique in flavor.
