The golf team is back! The golf team meets every Tuesday and Thursday in room 401. The golf coach is Mr. Theodore Dickhudt, who is also an English teacher.
“The golf club is a sports team where we are able to practice more about golf and how it is to be in a team,” said 11th grader Esmerelda Ortiz.
In addition to playing golf, students in the club enjoy being able to play with their friends.
“I feel good about being in the golf club, mostly because my teacher from English is also my coach, and my friends are also in the club so we get to play together,” responded Ortiz. “It is also a good learning experience because I’ve never played golf before.’’
Additionally, another student also agrees with golf being a learning and unique experience.
’’I feel very excited,” Saidy responded. “I feel like golf is something that not everyone has access to and that’s very exciting.”
In fact, while we do have the students’ perspectives, we have the perspective of how the coach feels as well.
‘’I love golf myself. It’s a beautiful sport, we’re outdoors, it’s very relaxing and very mentally therapeutic,” said Dickhudt, the golf coach. “And I think that students would benefit from that as well.’’
Dickhudt loves coaching golf because “it offers not only students a new experience and a different experience, but I think the lessons that they learn in golf and on the golf course will follow them into the classrooms and into their lives and beyond.”
“I think golf is a great way to learn about yourself, to make friends and to expand your horizons in a lot of different ways,” Dickhudt said.
Make sure to follow for updates on the golf team. There are 10 games in total this season. The next game of the season is this Thursday March 27, 2025 at Van Cortlandt Park.
