We interviewed 6th graders to understand their perspective of middle school so far. We interviewed five students: Xarielysh Hernandez, Emma Perez, Yonairis Taveras, Yohansen Dejesus, and Neidean Palma. All interviews took place in the cafeteria.
Sanata Keita: How do you like CHAH so far?
Xarielysh Hernandez: CHAH is good so far because I made best friends.
Emma Perez: Oh, it’s good.
Yonairis Taveras: Good, I like it a lot.
Neidean Palma: What I like about CHAH is they don’t put a lot of pressure on you and they kind of move at your understanding.
Yohansen Dejesus: It’s a good school.
Sanata Keita: What’s your favorite subject in school?
Hernandez: My favorite subjects are gym and recess because you could go outside and you can play in the gym.
Perez: It’s probably math or science…or ELA. I really like the teachers and like I… I feel like it’s like so right for me and it’s nice.
Palma: Science because we have time to do our work and they are strict on us for our learning.
Keita: Who do you think is [a good] fit for teacher of the month [and why]?
Hernandez: Ms. A…I like how she teaches better and her patience with us.
Perez: Mr. Heidke…because he gives a chill teacher vibe.
Taveras: Ms.Murphy…Cause she’s–I like Ms.Murphy.
Palma: Either Ms. A or Mr. Heidke.
Keita: What do you think is the most challenging subject in CHAH?
Dejesus: I would have to say literacy.
Taveras: None.
Keita What do you have this year that you didn’t last
Dejesus: Soccer.
Taveras: Gym.
Keita: What clubs would you be interested in?
Palma I’m already in soccer, but if I can I will try out for basketball.
Hernandez: After-school. (Note: The CLOTH After-school Program is free and open to middle school students)
Keita: If you can change something this year, what would it be?
Taveras: Um, I would allow theater to be in school.
Dejesus: Not having to wear school uniform every day.
Keita: What ‘specials’ do you like?
Taveras: Dance because I like dancing.
Dejesus: I will have to say like music.
Keita: What are you looking forward to this year/expectations?
Palma: To pass the grade and to be one of the top students.

Good job surveying students about CHAH. I appreciated learning more about what our 6th grade students like about our school. Thanks!
