Flag Football Players Reflect on Wins and Losses

 We interviewed 7th graders Matthew Miranda, Liancel Disla, and Elijah Rivera on their flag football experience. Even though they lost, they are still proud to be one of the top teams in Manhattan.

Keita: How’s your season going so far?

Miranda: Uh it’s . . . we’re doing really good, but we lost our last game, so we’re not playing no more. But we were 4th in Manhattan…and this is the best that we did, and especially when we only had flag football for about 2 years. 

Keita: What’s your position? 

Miranda: Wide receiver, quarterback, and everything on defense.

Disla: Center and wide receiver.

Rivera: Wide receiver.

Keita: What’s your favorite part?

Miranda: When we’re winning.

Rivera: Getting in the championship. 

Keita: Tell me about practice.

Miranda: Practice is not that bad. The only bad part is when he makes us do suicides, and makes us go back and forth five times. 

Rivera: Practice is hard. 

Keita: So tell me about Mr. DeJesus and his training. Is it hard?

Miranda: He doesn’t really need training, cause now we have a coach for JV and varsity. [NOTE: The coach for varsity is

DeJesus and the coach for JV is Jaden Quezada.] 

Keita: What makes training hard?

Miranda: Nothing really because  he doesn’t make us do crazy stuff. 

Keita: What was the hardest part of the game so far?

Miranda: The thing that hurts the most is when I lose. When we lose and when we lost the game to make it to the

quarterfinals.

Rivera: So, the hardest part is losing.
