In the midst of the daily challenges faced by students, social workers emerge as a lifeline, providing not only emotional support, but also concrete strategies that allow students to overcome obstacles and achieve their academic goals.
Social workers act as a support program within schools, dedicated to helping students when they face personal situations that affect their academic performance. They support students through practical workshops and advice. This approach seeks not only to improve their well-being, but also to ensure their academic success, demonstrating the importance of offering emotional and academic support to students in difficult times.
“Social workers are people who help students face their difficulties, always making them feel safe to express themselves freely. They can also make social connections where they can get opportunities,” said Vanessa Velez, the school social worker. Ms. Velez is a person who is part of the CHAH community, who always wants to see all her students happy, helping them improve every day, building self-esteem and doing fun activities.
“A social worker acts as a bridge between the student, his family and the school, helping to create an environment where the student can feel safe and understood,” said Cristopher Olivarez Paniagua, an 11th grade student. It is that the social worker sometimes helps students connect with their family at the same time so that they feel valued.
“Their presence not only benefits students, but also teachers and families as they work together to ensure the success of each child,” said Olivarez. He believes everyone in the school community can work together to create a much more positive environment. That not only helps students learn better, but also makes teachers and families feel more supported.
Social workers not only help you face difficult situations, it also helps you make friends, get opportunities, and above all you can feel confident with your teachers to have a pleasant environment.
