When we’re young, we have lots of things on our minds. School, homework, getting enough sleep, staying in shape, ect. It’s nice to do something that gets your mind off things. And that’s exactly what Bring Change 2 Mind club is all about. The club held events every day for Mental Health Spirit Week from 3/23-3/27.
The club meets in the main office, room 103B during lunchtime, and meetings afterschool were hosted in room 221 at 2:50-4:00 on Monday. During Mental Health Week, the club had various activities that were all related to mental health in some way, and it was a great way for people to meet and get along.
“Bring Change 2 Mind is a mental health club for highschool students here at CHAH, we host after school meetings typically on Mondays and we do different activities for wellness and also self care, and we discuss mental health topics related to managing stress,” said Ms. Jones, a social worker for BC2M.
Jones also stated that students should join the club because “mental health is something that everyone has, even if you are feeling good we all have bad days or even just need people to talk with. In the club you’re able to create a community, and we’re able to do fun activities related to mental health and it creates a space where we can be open.”
Speaking of activities, during BC2M annual events (located in Lower Manhattan), there are stress dogs, and activities such as yoga and bracelet making. There are even activities after school such as kindness jars where you can write affirmations to yourself, and painting, and cupcake decorating, and a run club which will start in Spring. There are just a variety of different activities for everyone.
“It has brought me more awareness about not only different people in the school but also just generally about mental health and how important it is to bring more focus on it without only talking about mental health,” stated Jeffrey Henriquez, a BC2M club leader. “We indirectly improve our mental health by not only talking about it, but also doing fun activities.”
As part of the club, you can get free community hours from joining the club, which you need to graduate, so it’s not a bad idea to join the club and get some free graduation points!
All in all, the BC2M is a place where people of all ages can connect and discuss mental health topics, while doing fun activities that serve to boost mental health and make you feel better about yourself. And who doesn’t want to feel better about themselves, especially when you’re young?
