The Winter Concert is one of the two concerts we have yearly at CHAH, consisting of our two amazing groups, dance and band. The winter concert took place at the George Washington High School Campus, on Thursday, January 15th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
“I think it went better than I thought it would, but overall pretty good,” said band student Sanai Blue, after being asked about how she felt about the first concert of the year. Dance student Destiny Salce responded, “I feel good about it, even if it was very nerve racking.”
When asked if they could change anything about how things went down that day, band student Andy Mercado said, “People actually bringing their music sheets and remembering things more.” A different student from dance, Dalila Gonzalez, said, “Probably my hair, like it got so puffy ‘cause I was so hot. I probably would have tied it up for the second dance rather than having it out. Other than that everything was just perfect.”
“I think this year was better because there’s more excitement and the choreography gets better each time,” said Salce, after being asked to compare this year’s show to last year’s shows and to think about how they improved on anything. Blue, when asked the same question, replied, “I think as a band we improved now, we did have new people so I can’t comment on everyone, but with the people that were with me last year I think we improved.”
After we asked the students if they felt like they had improved since the previous year, Mr. Cawley, the music teacher, said “Absolutely. I think for anyone who was here last year and went to the concert versus coming to this concert, you’ll see just the confidence students had on stage, the way they moved, the way everyone was on stage and off stage.”
Ms. Jacobson, the dance teacher, agreed. “Yes, I definitely think my students have improved, this was the fifth concert. It’s nice to see the older kids, the 11 and 12th graders, support the new younger dancers.”
Cawley felt that this was his favorite concert so far. “This year, I think a lot of my seniors especially brought the kind of spring energy into it. It just…..It felt, It was electric, you know?” Cawley said.
“I don’t have a favorite concert. I like to see all the hard work my students do, I like to live in the moment. I liked seeing the kids look happy while making their own choreography and showing their creativity,” said Jacobson.
Now that the winter concert has ended, I’m sure a lot of you are wondering what’s going on behind the scenes and what’s next? Well, don’t worry, the spring concert will still be a thing.
“My favorite part of the end is when kids are happy and asking what’s next? I don’t know what’s next yet, I guess we’ll see in the next two months?” Jacobson said.

Excellent reporting. I enjoyed reading what the participants had to say about the concert. It’s nice to have a place to highlight the events of the school.

This is an excellent story filled with strong quotes from the students and the teachers. It tells people what happened at the concert.

I commend the way you brought awareness to school culture and the talents students have.
