Our group interviewed Mr. King, Lewis Gomez, and Noel Minaya. All our interviews took place in the gym. We chose to interview these people because they are the ones with the most important roles on the basketball team, and they make the plays better.
“The people who want to join the team need to work hard. You don’t have to be the best of anything. You don’t have to score. You just need to know how to play your role,” said Noel Minaya, a junior on the team.
Usually the team practices every school day from 3:30-4:30pm, or 4:30-6:30pm, except the days they have a game to play. And the coach, Michael King, has been coaching for a long time.
“That’s why we’re better than they are–not because of what we did yesterday, not because of what we did this week, it’s because of what we did the entire season,” said basketball coach Michael King.
As for the players, Minaya has been playing basketball on the team since middle school. He started during COVID in 6th grade. He has been in this school for so long that the team is important to him and he doesn’t want to change schools.
“The best decision is to stay loyal to the school. Many schools spoke to me [about playing for them], but I decided to stay here. I believe loyalty is a requirement for a team’s success,” said Minaya.
Another key player is Lewis Gomez. Gomez is a senior and the team captain. He has made an impact on the team as a player and a captain.
“The influence I want as a captain is to always make sure my teammates are positive,” said Gomez.
