Career Day is a yearly event in CHAH where people from various professions visit the school to talk about their jobs. They are here to inspire and teach people about their jobs. Career Day is held in the gym, with different grades going up to experience the event at different times of day. It is run by Ms. Beckles, so thank her if you see her.
The newspaper crew interviewed some of the people who came to Career Day. Here’s what they said.
Q: What is your name? What is your job?
CL: Christina Lane. I work for myself freelancing. I interview celebrities. @christinaslane on Instagram.
JR: Janice Rodriguez. I run a fitness studio called Drip Sweat.
SO: Stefany Ovalles. I’m an immigration lawyer.
JH: Jason Hill. I work with the FDNY.
Q: What made you choose this job?
CL: I love being able to connect with the neighborhood.
Q: What do you like about your job? What do you dislike about it?
JR: I like that every day I’m making someone’s life better.
SO: I like helping people, and I dislike the systems that make that difficult.
JH: I love helping people, and I don’t like going to fires where people get hurt. I enjoy when kids come to the firehouse.
Q: What advice would you give someone starting out at your job?
JR: Follow your passion and always give 100%.
SO: I would say to make sure to take care of yourself and never forget why you started.
JH: Stay strong, healthy, and consistent.
Again, remember to thank Ms. Beckles if you see her. Happy Career Day!
