At CHAH, students started receiving laptops after they brought back a form that their parents were supposed to sign. The main reason the kids received their own laptops was so they could finish their homework and missing work at home. According to silive.com, they got it so they could get access to free programming. It also states K-12 kids will get free data on the laptops wherever they live.
There are different reasons kids got their laptop. “…They gave the laptops so students don’t make excuses about not doing their homework and now they have free internet,” said Ms. Damas.
“I think they gave it because they knew we had potentially bad weather and students will get access to Google Classroom,” Mr. Falciani said.
Some students’ reactions were excited and some were not surprised and nonchalant like Matthew Miranda. “I wasn’t really surprised, I was gonna get it, so yeah it was adrenaline. I really liked the laptop, if it’s free it’s for me,” Miranda said.
If you didn’t know already, the laptops that have been distributed have free internet. “The laptops have cellular built in free internet, so you have a secure device that has a built-in free internet,” said Tusher.
According to Tusher, approximately 200 students at CHAH have received their laptops and their goal is to give them to the entire school, which would be about 500 students.
“We have an amazing group of interns from CUNY, they did a good job giving and storing the laptops,” said Falciani. “Part time college students help give out laptops,” Tusher said.
Sign and give in the student agreement forms to also get a laptop with free internet, if you hadn’t already. Make sure to say thank you to the people who gave out the laptops.
